Deliver Us From Evil

Ron Lutz ~ Matthew 6:9-13   Sermon Quotes: Matthew 6:9-15 9 Pray then like this: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. 10 Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us this day our daily bread, 12 and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. If only there were evil people somewhere insidiously committing evil deeds, and it were necessary only to separate them from the rest of us and destroy them. But the line dividing good and evil cuts through the heart of every human being. And who is willing to destroy a piece of his own heart? Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn Behind the temptations stands the tempter, behind the lie stands the liar, behind all the dead and bloodshed stand the ‘murderer from the beginning.’… Dear friends in our times we have had far too much contact with demonic powers. Helmut Thielicke “… there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.“ John 8:44 “the accuser of our brethren has been thrown down, who accuses them day and night before our God.” Revelation 12:10 God made [us] alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross. 15 He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in him. Colossians 2:13-15 “Give me all of you!! I don’t want so much of your time, so much of your talents and money, and so much of your work. I want you!! All of you!! I have not come to torment or frustrate the natural man or woman, but to kill it! No half measures will do. I don’t want to only prune a branch here and a branch there; rather I want the whole tree out!… give yourself to me and I will make of you a new self—in my image. Give me yourself and in exchange I will give you Myself. My will, shall become your will. My heart, shall become your heart.” C. S. Lewis ”When it comes to killing sin, I don’t wait passively for the miracle of sin-killing to be worked on me, I act the miracle.” John Piper And if your hand or your foot causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life crippled or lame than with two hands or two feet to be thrown into the eternal fire. Matthew 18:8 For Christianity is a fighting religion. It thinks God made the world—that space and time, heat and cold, and all the colors and tastes… are things that God made up out of his head. But it also thinks that a great many things have gone wrong with the world that God made and that God insists, and insists very loudly, on our putting them right again.” C. S. Lewis
