I’ve never been disciplined at writing in journals. Yes, as a teen I wrote in a diary…for a while. When traveling as an adult, I recorded the sights and events of my days…for a while. But I’ve never felt comfortable writing down my thoughts and ideas.
Like my journal writing, I haven’t been disciplined in spending time in God’s Word. Other, less important, activities filled my days. I knew that had to change; I needed to change. So, I made it a priority to start each day in His Word.
About the same time, “Living for the King” was starting at New Life Dresher. I registered for the course, eager to learn and grow in faith. When I received the course materials, I discovered in Week 1 an assignment on journal keeping.
A dear friend had given me a journal which I decided to use for “Living for the King.” Each page had beautifully published Scripture verses. But, as with other attempts, I jotted down a few thoughts and insights…for a while.
However, I did continue getting up early to read my Bible. As I read more and more and prayed more and more, God’s “journal” spoke to me about love, mercy, repentance, forgiveness, hope…
I kept asking Him to show me His will for my life. And then one morning, I read “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 NKJV*)
I was so excited and felt compelled to write this down! I opened my journal and there on the inside cover was published ”Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” God had written in my journal…not for a while, but forever. Amen!
