Anthony Gammage ~ James 1:19-25
Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger; for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God. Therefore put away all filthiness and rampant wickedness and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like. But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing. Of his own will he brought us forth by the word of truth, that we should be a kind of first fruits of his creatures… receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls… But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres
You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness about me, yet you refuse to come to me that you may have life.
But now you must put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and obscene talk from your mouth.
For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God’s law; indeed, it cannot.
