God With Us

Ron Lutz ~ The Christian Story – John 1:1-14

Sermon Quotes

John 1:1-14
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. He came as a witness, to bear witness about the light, that all might believe through him.  He was not the light, but came to bear witness about the light. The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world. 10 He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world did not know him. 11 He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him.  12 But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, 13 who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God. 14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.

44 Then he said to them, “These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you, that everything written about me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled.” 45 Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures…
-Luke 24:44-45

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not anything made that was made.
-John 1:1-3

He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power.
-Hebrews 1:3

29 Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care. 30 And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. 31 So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.
-Matthew 10:29-31

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us…
-John 1:14

The Word became flesh and blood, and moved into the neighborhood.
-The Message

The Word had become flesh; a real human baby. He had not ceased to be God; He was no less God then than before; but he had begun to be man.  He was not now God minus some elements of his deity; but God plus all that he had made his own by taking manhood to himself.
-J.I. Packer

…and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
-John 1:14

The New Testament knows nothing of an incarnation which can be defined apart from its relation to atonement…Not Bethlehem, but Calvary, is the focus of revelation…    –James Denney

For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you by his poverty might become rich.
-2 Corinthians 8:9

The most spectacular display of God’s glory is in a bloody instrument of torture because that is where God’s goodness was most displayed.
-D. A. Carson

And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.
-2 Corinthians 3:18
