Joe Chi – Psalm 129
Sermon Quotes
Psalm 129
“Greatly have they afflicted me from my youth”—
let Israel now say—
2 “Greatly have they afflicted me from my youth,
yet they have not prevailed against me.
3 The plowers plowed upon my back;
they made long their furrows.”
4 The Lord is righteous;
he has cut the cords of the wicked.
5 May all who hate Zion
be put to shame and turned backward!
6 Let them be like the grass on the housetops,
which withers before it grows up,
7 with which the reaper does not fill his hand
nor the binder of sheaves his arms,
8 nor do those who pass by say,
“The blessing of the Lord be upon you!
We bless you in the name of the Lord!”
“Oh to grace how great a debtor daily I’m constrained to be.
Let thy goodness, like a fetter, bind my wandering heart to thee
Prone to wander, Lord I feel it, prone to leave the God I love”
“The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it? I the LORD search the heart and test the mind”
-Jeremiah 17:9-10
We walk by faith, not by sight
-2 Corinthians 5:7
In all this Job did not sin or charge God with wrong.
-Job 1:22
With far greater labors, far more imprisonments, with countless beatings, and often near death. 24 Five times I received at the hands of the Jews the forty lashes less one. 25 Three times I was beaten with rods. Once I was stoned. Three times I was shipwrecked; a night and a day I was adrift at sea; 26 on frequent journeys, in danger from rivers, danger from robbers, danger from my own people, danger from Gentiles, danger in the city, danger in the wilderness, danger at sea, danger from false brothers; 27 in toil and hardship, through many a sleepless night, in hunger and thirst, often without food, in cold and exposure. 28 And, apart from other things, there is the daily pressure on me of my anxiety for all the churches. 29 Who is weak, and I am not weak? Who is made to fall, and I am not indignant. 30 If I must boast, I will boast of the things that show my weakness”
-2 Corinthians 11:23-30
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may ediscern what is the will of God, what is good
and acceptable and perfect.
=Romans 12:2
For all the promises of God find their Yes in him (Jesus Christ).
-2 Corinthians 1:20
