When Dr. Luke wrote to describe the Jerusalem church in Acts 2:42-47 he wasn’t fictionalizing a romantic ideal, he was simply describing the reality of life in the church.
“And they devoted themselves to the apostles teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. And awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. And all who believed were together and had all things in common. And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.”
Sounds pretty great doesn’t it? Devoted members, lives being changed, active care for one another, and sharing life together. Most churches long for these things and pursue them diligently. This is certainly true for us at New Life. And one of the main ways we endeavor to cultivate this kind of normal is through our home groups. We want our home groups to be places where gather together to nurture our devotion to Jesus, to pray and expect the Spirit to continue changing lives, to actively care for one another, and to share life together.
Are you plugged in to a group like this? If not, send me an email or give me a call at the church office and let’s get you plugged in.
